Do you believe in ghosts?

No. And my intellectual respect immediately drops for anyone who does. Here’s a fun article addressing this topic: Cinema Fiction vs. Physics Reality: Ghosts, Vampires, and Zombies.

I get the sense that you're actually not very surprised. So how about you? What do you think about the ontological status of those Casperian creatures? 😉

hmm. i have several different kinds of thoughts on this subject. i've always been intrigued by this and related phenomena, but i also don't swallow everything i see/read/hear about it, either. i believe that a lot of things are perceived as ghosts that aren't really ghosts, and i think a lot of people who perceive these things are highly suggestible. but i do believe that there are the rare occurrences that can't be explained – or haven't been explained – that i'm willing to leave up in the air. of course, being the type of christian i am, i do believe there's a spirit world, but as far as what they do and what we see of it, it's not important enough for me to make any solid determination about it or have any arguments about it. i have a great deal of skepticism about what people say about it, but that doesn't cause me to rule out every single possibility. i feel like i now sound like trailer trash. point is, i don't know, and i'm ok with that.

A fair analysis. Now I'm just curious as to what you mean by "know," as in, "I don't know" whether or not ghosts exist. 😉

i'm not exactly sure what you're getting at.

Well, if "know" is understood in a strict and absolute sense, it means that there is no possible way one could be wrong. And thus it would quite naturally follow that one could not know whether or not ghosts exist (for we could always be wrong). In fact, we could hardly know anything at all with those standards of knowledge. And if that's the sort of "know" that you had in mind, then I agree with you with regard to our knowledge concerning ghosts, but would also say that stating as much is somewhat trivial.
